Bridge money better spent on schools?

Bridge money better spent on schools?

Congratulations to Algonquin for having the additional resources to build a grand walking bridge over Randall Road connecting two area shopping areas.

But really, couldn’t this money be used more efficiently? Wait a minute. How about putting it toward our schools? District 300 recently had a teachers strike that was said to be about $2 million dollars apart between the district and the union. Let’s invest in our children by lowering class sizes and helping our teachers to do a better job by instructing our future.

If more municipalities have budgets in other areas why not reconstruct where the money will be used with its greatest impact. I’m not saying the teachers union is due all they claim but the bottom line should be our children’s education and future.

Maybe some economic survey or highly paid consultant said the bridge would bring more business to the already overpopulated shopping district on Randall Road but I highly doubt that it will. People will drive under the bridge and say, “Look at the pretty bridge that nobody is using. What a waste of money.”

Let’s stop this construction now and use some common sense, be practical and put the money to better use.
