Chicago police get new wheels from Ford
Police in Chicago have some new wheels.
The Chicago Police Department has received about 50 new Ford Interceptor law enforcement vehicles made at the Ford Plant on the city’s South Side.
The vehicles are part of a $15 million order for a total of 500 sedans and SUVs.
The new vehicles have all-wheel drive and a stability control system for safer driving.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says the vehicles are among the “tools we need to protect our residents and communities.”
The vehicles received Wednesday are a mix of marked and unmarked utility vehicles and sedans.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel presented the project as a job-creator.
Ford announced 2,000 new jobs at the plant in 2011. Two hundred of those jobs are directly related to the Interceptor production.
