Grayslake man pleads guilty to child sex offense charge

By Lee Filas

A Grayslake man pleaded guilty to attempted criminal sexual assault of a child in Lake County court Tuesday.

Eric Hopkins, 41, of the 17000 block of the Greentree Boulevard, was charged in May with predatory criminal sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 13.

Hopkins agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge in front of Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti Tuesday in hopes of getting a reduced jail sentence.

Hopkins could be sentenced up to 15 years in prison, and could be forced to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Hopkins is due back in court for sentencing Jan. 14.
