Elderly Arlington Hts. bike rider hit by car, in critical condition

An elderly man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Golf Road in Arlington Heights on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Arlington Heights police fire personnel responded to an accident involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist on Golf Road east of the McDonald's restaurant at 45 E. Golf Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Golf Road when it hit a bicyclist crossing the eastbound lanes of traffic, according to a release.

The bicyclist suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for medical treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle suffered no injuries.

An accident reconstructionist has been assigned to conduct an in-depth investigation. The use of alcohol and/or drugs is not suspected. Any one who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call (847) 368-5300 to speak with an investigator.
