Elk Grove Parks Foundation Spin-O-Thon raises over $3,500

On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Elk Grove Parks Foundation hosted its first Spin-O-Thon raising over $3,500 for the group.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., "celebrity" volunteers rode stationary bikes in the Pavilion lobby to encourage donations to the foundation scholarship fund.

Twenty-eight riders rode for an hour each. Tracy Balla, an Elk Grove High School student, rode the entire seven hours, bringing in $826 in donations.

The riders included Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig B. Johnson, Village Trustees Chris Prochno and Pat Feichter and Park Board Commissioners Tom Cooke and Bill O'Malley. The Elk Grove Rotary had a team as did the Pavilion Fitness Center and a group named Team O'Malley. The principals from Link and Salt Creek elementary schools also rode in the Spin-O-Thon. Everyone who donated to the riders was entered into a raffle for prizes.

The Elk Grove Parks Foundation scholarship fund provides park district programs to Elk Grove residents that cannot otherwise afford them. The money primarily funds children for dance, swimming, summer camp and after school care.
