Lack of snow setting records but storm in forecast

text size: AAA
By Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Illinois is setting records for its lack of snow -- but that could change soon.

Weather experts say there is a record as of Sunday for the latest measurable snowfall in Chicago. The previous record was in 1965, when snow didn't fall until Dec. 16 at O'Hare International Airport. That's the official weather site.

The city also broke its record last week for most days between measurable snowfalls.

Chicago still hasn't had its first measurable snowfall this season.

But the National Weather Service says parts of the Midwest could see up to a foot of snow on Thursday.

That will be welcome news for some businesses that include everything from hardware stores that have a surplus of snow shovels to ski resorts that haven't been able to open.
