Cary-Grove students collect $20,000 in gifts for kids

By

Cary-Grove High School students and Interact Club members sent a truckload of presents to students in Chicago.

The students collected roughly 800 gifts worth about $20,000 that came from letters students at the Richard J. Daley Academy in the Back of the Yards neighborhood sent to Santa.

Popular items on lists were Baby Alive, Monster High dolls, board games, Angry Birds and sports-related equipment and games.

Cary-Grove student Brian O’Conner enjoys participating in the event, saying: “This is the only gift they’re probably going to get. … You know you’re going to put a smile on their face.”
