Fresh Christmas trees smell wonderful, but they make a mess and can be a fire hazard.
Artificial trees are straight and evenly shaped, but they don't have the character of a live pine, fir or spruce.
According to the National Christmas Tree Association, real trees outsell fake ones by a 3-to-1 ratio. But then, an artificial tree isn't an annual purchase.
