Local artist featured in new exhibit

Local artist Marshall Philyaw will display his unique paintings in oil and watercolor beginning Dec. 15 at the Waukegan Public Library's Gallery 128, 128 N. County St. Philyaw's art collection focuses on his personal experiences from 1963 to the present and several of the pieces are of local historical interest. Philyaw graduated high school in North Chicago in 1961 and then attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He has worked as a commercial artist, illustrated two books and worked as a freelance catalog illustrator. He also is a performing magician. The exhibit entitled "A Mixed Bag" will be on display at the gallery through Feb. 8. An opening reception for the artist will be 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 15 during Waukegan's ArtWauk. Gallery 128 serves as a dedicated exhibit space to showcase the talents of local artists in the library. Call (847) 623-2041, ext. 231.
