½ cup canola oil

1 cup unsalted butter (no substitutes)

1 cup sugar

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 eggs

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

Colored sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl with an electric mixer, cream the oil, butter, sugars and vanilla extract until fluffy. Add eggs and beat until well combined.

In a large bowl, mix flour, cream of tartar and baking soda; add dry ingredients to the sugar mixture 1 cup at a time mixing well after each addition.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough (dough will be soft) on ungreased cookie sheet or use a cookie scoop. Press down with a glass dipped in sugar or flatten with palm of your hand. Sprinkle with colored sugar

Bake 10-13 minutes or till lightly brown.

Makes three to four dozen.
