Services set for Schaumburg High senior killed in hit-and-run
Services have been set for a Schaumburg High School senior killed in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend.
A funeral for Mikias Tibebu will be held at noon Wednesday at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave in Chicago. Interment will follow at Montrose Cemetery, 5400 N. Pulaski in Chicago.
A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the main gym of the high school, 1100 W. Schaumburg Road.
Tibebu, 18, was found lying in the street at Schaumburg Road and Branchwood Drive about 12:38 a.m. Saturday, according to Schaumburg police. Several bystanders initiated CPR, but Tibebu was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the department is following up on several leads from the public in their search for the hit-and-run driver.
According to an email from Palatine-Schaumburg District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen, students who plan to attend the funeral can be excused by having their parents call the school’s attendance office at (847) 755-4670.
