Patient jumps out of ambulance, dies in Chicago

Authorities in Chicago say a 20-year-old man is dead after he jumped out of an ambulance as it was taking him to a hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office reports Ramiro Reynosa was picked up because he appeared to be incoherent when someone spotted him seated in a running vehicle.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says preliminary reports indicate Reynosa said he needed to vomit and a medic unbuckled one of the straps that held him to the ambulance's gurney. Langford says that's when Reynosa got free, opened the back door of the ambulance and jumped out into the street.

The medical examiner's office says he died after suffering major head trauma.
