Glen Ellyn investigating attic fire

Officials are investigating a possible electrical fire that broke out in the attic of a Glen Ellyn home on Saturday afternoon.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 900 block of Highland Avenue at 4:43 p.m. on Saturday, according to a release.

The first responders on the scene realized there had been a fire in an electrical outlet that was possibly still burning in the attic, officials said. Crews opened the ceiling over the kitchen and extinguished the fire before it had time to spread, according to the release.

Damages were contained to the ceiling above the kitchen. The occupants of the home evacuated and there were no injuries.

Glenside and Wheaton fire departments assisted Glen Ellyn with the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Lt. Craig Eldridge.
