Johnsburg man dies day after Route 72 crash

By

A Johnsburg man died Friday morning from injuries he sustained in a crash Thursday when his vehicle collided with a semitrailer on Route 72 in unincorporated Rutland Township.

Martin Baureis, 26, died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s office.

The driver of the semitrailer, Michael Fritz, 47, of McHenry, was not injured in the crash.

Authorities said Fritz observed the Toyota Corolla driven by Baureis approach from the west, and cross the centerline and into the oncoming lane. Fritz couldn’t avoid the crash.

First responders put out a fire engulfing the Toyota and then extricated Baureis, who was pinned in the vehicle.
