Among four drivers taken to Northwest Community Hospital after a four-vehicle pileup on Route 53 Thursday evening, three received citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
One of those drivers received a further citation for having no insurance, Illinois State Police said.
Sgt. Amy Pelletier said the crash occurred at 6:02 p.m. in the local lanes of northbound 53 at Interstate 90.
One vehicle, she said, was stopped in traffic when another car struck from behind. A third vehicle then struck the second one from the rear.
The first driver, who’d stopped to check the vehicle for problems even before the crash, was pinned against a guardrail when a fourth vehicle joined the pileup.
Pelletier said none of those taken to the hospital exhibited life-threatening injuries.
