An 86-year-old Streamwood woman was killed early Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates, authorities said.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash just south of Higgins Road at 4:13 a.m., said Hoffman Estates police Sgt. Darin Felgenhauer. The woman, Helen Royce, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:13 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman’s Mitsubishi sedan was traveling south on Barrington Road when it collided with a Ford Explorer in the northbound lane.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 39-year-old Hanover Park man, was not injured. He was cited for not having a driver’s license.
The northbound lanes of Barrington Road were temporarily closed during the investigation’s early stages.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
