The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter is seeking outgoing and engaging individuals interested in becoming Alzheimer’s Association Support Group facilitators.
This volunteer position is an opportunity to make a big impact in proving support to those directly impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
Support Group facilitators assist the Alzheimer’s Association support services team by maintaining ongoing caregiver support groups in their communities, providing caregivers with a safe and dependable support system.
Volunteers must be organized, energized and comfortable with creating and maintaining a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equality and respect. Professional experience in dementia care is not required, although experience with dementia as a family member or health care professional is preferred. Potential support group facilitators must undergo a screening and background check.
New volunteers will receive support group facilitator training led by Association staff members, who continue a hands-on role with facilitators as they help to further the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association.
To become a support group facilitator, go to alz.org/illinois, click on Volunteer and select Support Group Facilitator on the application form.
