Music notes: Sammy Llanas brings BoDeans style to solo show

On his own

For years, singer-songwriter Sammy Llanas was a key member of the BoDeans, a roots-rock group that emerged from Waukesha, Wis., in the 1980s. Llanas lent his distinctive, high-pitched twang to the BoDeans' songs, either as background or as the lead singer. (Llanas also provided a memorable guest-vocal performance on Robbie Robertson's fantastic 1987 song “Somewhere Down the Crazy River”; if you're not aware of it, go download it now!) Arena rocker

Former “American Idol” finalist Chris Daughtry will bring his band (simply called “Daughtry”) and his angsty brand of arena-ready rock to Rosemont this weekend. From up north

Rock duo Japandroids is part of a veritable flood of indie bands from Canada to make a splash in the U.S. in recent years. Consisting of singer/guitarist Brian King and drummer David Prowse, the band delivers loud, soaring, anthemic blasts of guitar-based rock 'n' roll that recalls the wit of the Replacements, the roar of the Smashing Pumpkins and even the fist-in-the-air theatrics of the best hair-metal bands. Japandroids' second record, “Celebration Rock,” came out earlier this year, and it is bound to find a home on many critics' “Best of 2012” lists.
