No injuries were reported, but a Glen Ellyn family was forced from its home Monday morning when fire damaged a house on the 200 block of Newton Avenue, authorities said.
Firefighters responded at 7:03 a.m. and found flames shooting about four or five feet in the air from the roof and smoke coming from the eaves, Chief Jeff Buccola said. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, he said, but appears to be accidental. No damage estimates are available, but Buccola said most of the roof was destroyed.
The homeowners are being helped by friends and family, authorities said.
Firefighters from Glenside, Wheaton and York Center joined the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company in extinguishing the blaze while crews from Carol Stream and Lisle-Woodridge manned Glen Ellynís stations.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
