Authorities are investigating the robbery of a bank in Oak Brook, police said Friday. The robber is also suspected of hitting a Buffalo Grove bank last week, according to the FBI.
The more recent robbery happened about 5 p.m. Thursday at Fifth Third Bank, 1603 West 16th Street in Oak Brook. A man entered the bank, walked around for a bit and then approached a teller demanding money, police said in a news release.
No weapon was displayed. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said he was last seen walking west.
The robber was described as a white man 35 to 40 years old, 165 to 175 pounds and standing about 5-foot-8. He wore a dark, striped “skull cap,” a dark sweatshirt or jacket, eyeglasses and gray shorts over spandex. Surveillance cameras captured a clear image of his face.
Special Agent Joan Hyde of the FBI’s Chicago office said the same man is suspected of robbing PNC Bank on Lake-Cook Road in Buffalo Grove on Nov. 19. In that case, the robber demanded money from a teller without displaying a weapon.
