Palatine wins Governor's Hometown Award

By

The Village of Palatine has won a 2012 Illinois Governor's Hometown Award for mobilizing volunteers at the Countryside Association for People with Disabilities. Countryside Association created mobile work crews that allow their clients to volunteer at sites that have a mission focused on serving people with disabilities. In 2011, those places included Camp Read Leaf, Equestrian Connection, Palatine Food Pantry, Wings Resale Shop and Falcon Park. An on-site recycling program was also created as an offshoot from the clients' volunteer experiences. A total of 68 volunteers put in 1,566 volunteer hours in the past year, impacting an estimated 1,335 people. The award was presented at a ceremony on Thursday in Springfield.
