1 dead in shooting after Chicago funeral

By

Authorities say a known gang member was shot to death and another was wounded outside a Chicago church as people left the funeral of another slain man.

The presiding minister at the funeral asked on Twitter for prayers, tweeting after Monday's shooting: "Please pray ... This is Crazy!!"

The Rev. Corey Brooks says the funeral was for 32-year-old James Holman, who was killed last week.

Police say Holman was a gang member, but Brooks says he's not sure because he's usually warned to have police at a gang member's funeral.

Chicago's homicide rate has made national headlines for much of the year, starting in the spring when police reported the number of homicides was about 60 percent higher than for same period last year. Since then, the rate has slowed.
