Chicagoan and White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett was among the shoppers who supported local businesses this weekend.
Jarrett stopped by Powell’s Books and The Little Black Pearl in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood in support of Small Business Saturday.
Her goal was to help raise awareness about the importance of small businesses to their local communities.
Small Business Saturday was created to help businesses in response to small business owners who needed to create more demand for their products and services.
It falls between two of the busiest shopping days of the year: Black Friday, on the day after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday, when workers head back to their offices and shop online.
