The White Sox completed their 40-man roster Wednesday by announcing they've agreed to terms on a one-year, $700,000 contract with outfielder Dewayne Wise.

Late last off-season, the White Sox realized they needed a reserve outfielder and rolled the dice on Kosuke Fukudome.

Much like his four-year run with the Cubs, Fukudome was a nonfactor with the Sox. He batted .195 with no home runs and 4 RBI in 24 games before landing on the disabled list with an oblique strain. The White Sox released Fukudome in late June, basically getting nothing for their $1 million investment.

This time around, the Sox shored up the 2013 reserve outfield spot by signing Wise.

Still best known for preserving Mark Buehrle's perfect game on July 23, 2009 with an amazing catch that robbed Tampa Bay's Gabe Kapler of a home run leading off the ninth inning, Wise returned to the White Sox last August after being released by the Yankees.

"It's just like coming back home," said Wise, who first played with the Sox in 2008-09. "I had some good memories playing in Chicago and was hoping they'd call."

Wise, 34, made an immediate impact last season, going 5-for-12 with a home run and 6 RBI in his first three games with the White Sox.

Overall, the left-handed Wise batted .258 with 5 homers, 22 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 45 games with the Sox. He also had a .295 on-base percentage.

Displaying the versatility needed from a reserve outfielder, Wise made 28 starts in center, eight in left and two in right.

The well-traveled Wise is a career .228 hitter with 30 home runs and 112 RBI in 546 games over parts of 10 major-league seasons with Toronto, Atlanta, Cincinnati, the White Sox, Florida and the Yankees.
