Veteran Chicago firefighter laid to rest

The Chicago Fire Department is laying another veteran firefighter to rest.

On Wednesday, hundreds of firefighters wearing dress uniforms and other mourners turned out to a church on the city’s South Side for the funeral of Walter Patmon Jr.

The 61-year-old firefighter suffered a fatal heart attack on Nov. 11, a short time after he returned from a fire. Both Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Fire Commissioner spoke at the service for Patmon.

Earlier this month, firefighters gathered for the funeral of Herbert “Herbie” Johnson, who was killed battling a house fire.
