Police said six people have admitted to a string of recent Waukegan burglaries and have since been charged.
Neighbors on the 2800 block of Tyler reported suspicious activity last week after three men got of out a car and approached a building on that block. One knocked on the front door while two went to the back of the residence. A description by the neighbor led police to stop the vehicle matching the description near the intersection of Sunset and Lewis on Nov. 13. Police discovered stolen items in the vehicle and transported the suspects to the police station -- where admitted to eight other previous burglaries: the 2900 block of Yeoman, 500 block of Chestnut, 1600 block of Whitney, 1000 block of Woodlawn, 50 block of Wetzel, 1800 block of Delaware, 1800 block of Apache and 900 block of Westmoreland.
Jesus Mendez, 17, of the 1200 block of Brookside, was charged as an adult with four counts of residential burglary. He's being held in the Lake County jail on $25,000 bond.
Sonia Mendez, 20, also of the 1200 block of Brookside, was charged with four counts of residential burglary. She's being held at the Lake County jail on $4,000 bond.

Another 16-year-old male juvenile, of the 1000 block of Highland, was charged with four counts of residential burglary.
Waukegan Police Chief Daniel Greathouse warned parents to be vigilant about new items appearing in their homes.
"Since we were able to recover items from many of these burglaries from the homes of the offenders, I am sure at least one of these parents saw something that should have raised a red flag," Greathouse said.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
