Attorneys ask for new trial in Drew Peterson case

Drew Peterson's attorneys want a Will County judge to throw out his conviction for the murder of his third wife or grant him a new trial.
Attorneys for the former Bolingbrook police sergeant said Friday that the judge allowed hearsay evidence he shouldn't have and that Peterson was provided ineffective counsel.
The attorneys say, for example, that the judge should not have allowed attorney Harry Smith to testify even though attorney Joel Brodsky insisted on calling him.
Brodsky withdrew from Peterson's legal team last month. He says he was not ineffective, but that it's not surprising for defendants to say "anything and everything" to reverse their convictions.
Peterson was convicted in September in the 2004 drowning death of Kathleen Savio. His fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing in 2007.
