Two men stole a silver 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck valued at $22,000 from Sullivan Buick-GMC, 777 W. Dundee Road in Arlington Heights overnight Nov. 8.
According to police reports, the suspected thieves visited the dealership Nov. 8 and took a test drive. One of the men stayed in the truck to "check the interior" while the second man and the salesman went inside the office to discuss the price. The first man later returned the keys.
When an employee tried to use the ignition key to move the truck, it turned over but then stalled. The next morning, it was gone.
Dealership officials believe the man who stayed in the truck used a hand-held key-copying machine to make a generic key that would fit like the real key but would not have a required security chip to make the car run, police reports said.
Both men were described as in their 20s or 30s. One man was approximately 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, short black hair, mustache and wearing a jacket and blue jeans. The second offender was about 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, clean shaven, short sandy-colored hair, slight European accent, and wearing a black jumpsuit.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc.
