North Aurora police have closed its investigation into an Oct. 29 murder-suicide at an assisted living facility.

According to police, Jon S. Neel, 58, stabbed Tomi Vandiver.

Police were called to Eden Supportive Living Center, 311 S. Lincolnway, after Neel jumped out of a third-story window. When they entered his apartment, they found Vandiver’s body, with stab wounds.

Neel was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment, but died there the next day.

According to an obituary in the Amboy News, Neel had previously lived in Amboy and Dixon. He is survived by two daughters.

Vandiver, 50, formerly lived in Wheaton, according to DuPage County court records.

Neel and Vandiver had had a romantic relationship, according to police; she was in the apartment to collect some of her belongings. She also lived at Eden.

North Aurora Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said there were no previous police calls for trouble at Neel’s residence.

The center provides support services for physically disabled adults, ages 22 to 64, who wish to live independently.
