The Indian festival of Diwali this week marks the beginning of the new year for several of the world’s religions.
It is celebrated annually in the fall by followers of the Hindu, Jain, and Sikh religions.
Diwali is Hindi for “row of lights.” It is associated with worship of the goddess Lakshmi, who brings wealth and prosperity, and Ganesh, the god of good beginnings.
