Fifth Third Bank will host a "day of appreciation" for area veterans, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the Great Hall of Union Station, downtown Chicago. Veterans and the public are invited to this free event and enjoy live music. Bank employees will assemble 1,530 care packages for Illinois troops in Afghanistan, and the public is encouraged to write notes of support to be enclosed in the packages. The bank also is raising funds for educational scholarships for the families of wounded or lost soldiers from Illinois. Through Nov. 17 the bank will match 100 percent all donations received, up to $50,000. Make a donation at any Fifth Third banking center.
