Carpentersville-based True Patriots Care Foundation has installed hundreds of American flags on Route 47 near Oak Creek Highway in Huntley that represent the 323 Illinois soldiers killed since Sept. 11, 2001. The display was put on in conjunction with Culverís restaurant and Drendelís Corner ó both in Huntley ó which are both donating a portion of their sales to to VetsRoll.org, an organization that flies World War II veterans to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Culverís is reserving 11 percent of its Veterans Day proceeds for the cause, while Drendelís Corner will donate 100 percent of its revenues now through Veterans Day.
The Veterans Day commemoration doesnít end there.
Sunday, Culverís, 13240 Route 47, is holding a Veterans Day program at 3:30 p.m. and all veterans are invited to meet at Deicke Park in Huntley at 2 p.m. to be part of a convoy. It will include escorts from the police and fire departments and the Warrior Watch Riders.
Deicke Park is located at 11419 S. Route 47.
The events include a parade at 2:30 p.m., the presentation of the colors and flag retiring ceremonies.
