Cops: St. Charles man busted with 15 pounds of pot

By Harry Hitzeman

A 39-year-old St. Charles man was charged Wednesday with possession with intent to deliver more than 15 pounds of marijuana, according to authorities and court records.

Frank R. Brunke, of the 200 block of Birch Lane, was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. after Kane County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at his home and seized the marijuana and $1,600, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said.

“We got just over 15 pounds of cannabis,” Gengler said.

Brunke is charged with two felony marijuana charges, the most serious of which carries a prison term of six to 30 years without the possibility of probation, if convicted.

Gengler said the drugs have an estimated street value of at least $15,000.

According to Kane County court records, Brunke did not have any previous drug arrests in Kane County, just traffic citations. He was being held at the Kane County jail on $20,000 bail, meaning he must post $2,000 to be free while the charges are pending. His next court date was not immediately available.

St. Charles police also assisted in the search of Brunke’s residence.
