The Hanover Park Police Department has received the International Association of Chiefs of Police-Cisco Finalist Community Policing Award.
The award recognizes the department's Area Response Team (ART) Community Policing Program implemented in 2010 after several high-profile crimes the year before. The program incorporates community and intelligence-driven policing in the department's day-to-day operations to reduce crime and resolve the underlying issues that produce it.
The program also uses technology and information-sharing software to supplement its personnel's ability to receive the latest information. The village's crime rate has decreased 11 percent and 13 percent in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
Police Chief David Webb accepted the award earlier this month.
