A woman faces a felony count of retail theft after she stole -- then returned -- a puppy from a Naperville local pet store.

Brandie M. Walker, 21, of the 2600 block of Stonybrook Lane in Aurora, is accused of stealing Fiona, a $2,500 bulldog, from Petland on the 700 block of South Route 59, said Sgt. Lou Cammiso of the Naperville Police Department.

He said Walker and her boyfriend were playing with the puppy when the boyfriend walked out of the store to smoke a cigarette. At that point, Cammiso said, a store employee asked Walker if she needed assistance with anything. Walker declined.

A minute after the employee walked away, Cammiso said, Walker put the dog under her sweatshirt and walked out of the store.

Cammiso said store officials contacted police, and put the surveillance camera images of Walker on their Facebook page. He said those photos led to a tip.

Investigators went to Walker's house and spoke to her parents about the theft, Cammiso said, prompting Walker to return the puppy to the store on Saturday.

Cammiso said the value of the dog is the reason Walker was charged with a felony.

She remains held in DuPage County Jail on a $50,000 bond, and is due back in court Nov. 19, officials said.
