Warning: It's illegal to post pictures of your ballot

Social media is making its way into the Illinois election.

Illinois Board of Election officials say they received calls Tuesday from voters asking if they can take a picture of their completed ballot. Voters want to post the pictures on Facebook or other social media sites.

The board's Springfield office fielded some of those calls. And board spokesman Jim Tenuto says the answer is — no, you can't take pictures of your ballots.

He says that violates laws in Illinois and many other states designed to protect voting privacy.

Tenuto says another reason is to prevent people from profiting by demonstrating publicly that they voted for one candidate or another.
