Aurora man charged with stabbing baby, girlfriend

By Sara Hooker

An Aurora man faces multiple felony charges after police say he stabbed his 8-month-old baby and his girlfriend during a domestic dispute early Sunday morning.

Nathaniel J. Nared, 26, of the 1000 block of East Benton Street, was charged with aggravated battery to a child, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery and two counts of domestic battery following the incident at 1:15 a.m. Sunday. "She had the baby in her arms, and she apparently was going to leave for the night," said Dan Ferrelli, Aurora Police Department's director of public information. "She grabbed the baby, and he started to swing the knife."

The baby was slashed twice in the leg, while Nared's girlfriend, 22, suffered injuries to her stomach, right shoulder and back.

Both were transported to a nearby hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

Nared left the residence on foot. Police took him into custody shortly after at Galena Boulevard and Smith Street.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be involved, according to the preliminary investigation, Ferrelli said.

Nared remains in the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles and is held on a $200,000 bond.
