Aside from high winds and a huge waves on Lake Michigan, we in the Chicago area have largely been immune from the effects of superstorm Sandy.

On the East Coast, however, the toll has been catastrophic — more than 90 deaths as of Thursday, millions without power, billions in financial losses.
