More violations put St. Charles taverns back on hot seat

St. Charles Mayor Don DeWitte says the Tavern Association, which was formed to deal with self-regulation of primarily downtown establishments, seems to be working despite recent violations.

At first blush, it seems counterintuitive that two recent liquor license violations coming on the heels of intense scrutiny of problems at local taverns would be a good thing for St. Charles. But Mayor Don DeWitte said the nature of one of the incidents actually gives him some hope that taverns may be ready to clean up their acts as promised. Turns out one tavern ratted out another's violation. DeWitte said that's the kind of self-policing he can buy into.
