Testimony to continue Wednesday in Sheley trial
MORRISON — Testimony is expected to continue in the second murder trial of a man accused in a 2008 killing spree that left eight people dead in two states.
Testimony is set to continue Wednesday in Whiteside County in the trial of Nicholas Sheley, who is charged in the death of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. Sheley has pleaded not guilty. He already has been sentenced to life in prison for the bludgeoning death of a Galesburg man. Sheley is accused in six other killings that took place in Illinois and Missouri.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports Sheley’s wife, Holly, took the stand Tuesday. She broke down when she testified about her husband’s alleged drug use, calling him a “violent drunk.” She also told jurors about the couple’s dealings with Reed.
