The six Geneva School District 304 elementary schools — Heartland, Mill Creek, Fabyan, Western Avenue, Harrison Street and Williamsburg — accepted last week the challenge of filling a truck with donations for a local food pantry in connection with events during Red Ribbon Week.
It was all part of a “Stuff the Truck” campaign to help restock the food pantry at First Baptist Church in Geneva.
For a week the schools collected donations, and on Monday a driver went to each school to pick up the goods and deliver them to the food pantry.
In preparation for “Stuff the Truck,” families on Sunday helped decorate the truck with red ribbons and signs.
Red Ribbon Week is a citywide initiative to promote smart choices and drug prevention.
