It is always good to see a politician keep his word and stick to it. DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin made the statement a year ago that the people of DuPage County “deserve better” then the attendance of country board members, and he was going to straighten out the problem.
It is now one year later and his hard work shows, four people are under 80 percent, four more are under 90 percent of their required attendance at meetings, but we all know that they all received 100 percent of their pay. If in law practice a lawyer that only worked 80 percent of his time he would be fired, as anyone else in the private sector would be relieved of his job.
Board member Rita Gonzalez stated it would be a mistake to infer poor attendance means an official isn’t doing their job. Well, let’s take away 23 percent of her pay and see how she likes that. There are two other members that are not seeking another term. Does that mean they have their retirement in place from the job, so it is time to let two other members have a shot at the board for five years and get their retirement too?
