Illinois fugitive arrested in Mo. traffic stop

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — A man who was once listed among the most wanted fugitives in Illinois is now in custody in southeast Missouri following a drunk-driving arrest.

The Southeast Missourian reports that the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 52-year-old John E. Beck of Quincy, Ill., Monday night in Cape Girardeau. He is accused of driving while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a revoked license.

The trooper checked Beck’s records and found he had two outstanding felony warrants in Illinois, one accusing him of assaulting a minor in 2010 and the other for failing to register as a convicted sex offender.

The Southeast Missourian also cited court records revealing at least three other alcohol-related driving offenses.

Beck is jailed without bond in Cape Girardeau County.
