Downstate pharmacy tech gets probation for fraud

By

EAST ST. LOUIS — A southwestern Illinois pharmacy technician has been sentenced to two years of probation on federal charges that she fraudulently filled prescriptions.

Thirty-five-year-old Heather McDaniel of O’Fallon already had pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis to an indictment’s charges of health care fraud and illegal dispensation of the painkiller hydrocodone.

Federal prosecutors say McDaniel was a licensed pharmacy technician at a Walgreen site in Belleville when she knowingly processed fraudulent prescriptions for controlled substances.

McDaniel also was ordered to pay $736 in restitution.
