Contest entries focus on distinctly autumn theme

Each week’s DuPage County Neighbor section includes at least one entry in our Photo Finish contest. Our photo staff picks some of their favorite submissions to run each week and then one overall monthly winner.

This week’s submissions have a distinct feeling of fall.

Mark Kuhlmann of Aurora was walking at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle when he came upon a setting of oranges and reds that he says created a “surreal scene.”

Mike Long of Oak Brook also captured an image of the season — water drops on a leaf — during a Sunday morning walk with his dog, Molly.

Steve Jacobs had to travel a little farther for his picture of the New York City skyline as he returned from a Disney cruise.

If you’d like to try your hand at submitting a photo of your own for consideration, email it in .jpg format with at least 300 dpi resolution to ssanders@dailyherald.com.

Include your name, address and phone number, plus a description of where you took the photo and the occasion.

The monthly winner will receive a $50 gift certificate, good at PJ’s Camera, Pickwick Place Plaza, 662 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn.

Steve Jacobs of Winfield says this photo was taken as his Disney cruise ship was returning to port in the early morning hours of Sept. 12. It shows the beams of light for the Sept. 11 memorial and the new memorial tower under construction.
Mike Long of Oak Brook captured this image with his phone camera while walking his dog, Molly. “It was a quiet, warm, misty autumn morning just after the evening rains that washed a new blanket of colorful leaves from the trees,” he says.
