A 33-year-old Joliet man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a brutal attack of his elderly uncle.

Authorities say Exulam Holman gouged his uncle's eyes with his thumbs over a missing television remote control. A Will County judge sentenced Holman on Thursday. A jury convicted him in August of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a senior citizen.

During the trial, prosecutors told the jury that Holman attacked his uncle, Melvin Clifford, on New Year's Eve, pushing him down the stairs and later pinning him to the ground and gouging the elderly man's eyes with his thumbs.

Prosecutors say Clifford lost one eye in the attack and his vision in the other eye is limited.
