Mathias brings experience to job
I am writing regarding Carol Sente’s recent comments in which she indicated that experience in being a legislator is a bad thing. When I needed a surgeon for a major operation I sought out the individual who had done that particular surgery many times before. I would not typically seek out the most inexperienced surgeon. When I fly on a plane I love seeing gray hair on the pilots in the cockpit because it means that generally they have flown through bad weather many, many times before. If I need an attorney, I hire one with considerable experience. When the Chicago Symphony hired its new conductor, Ricardo Muti, it was stated that he was hired because they needed an experienced hand in difficult times.
So similar it is with our legislators. I want a legislator with experience and ability to work with other legislators and across the aisle to get the job done. I fail to understand why Sente believes it is a virtue to elect an inexperienced legislator when experience makes all the difference in the world.
Illinois is in terrible shape, and we need individuals who know how to forge agreements to find solutions to our tough problems. My vote is for experience and Sid Mathias.
