Romney will keep us in business

With the upcoming election, I decided it was important for me to express my concerns in the hope that you will think about your choices.

As a self-employed, single mother of three, I provide my own health insurance and pay $320 a month for me, which carries a $2,000 deductible. I pay additional premiums for my children. I was reviewing insurance options for my family yesterday with my insurance agent and he explained to me that when “Obamacare” goes into effect in 2014 that I should be prepared to pay $1,500 a month to insure me. I will pay additional premiums for my children.

In essence, I will be out of business, and I can assure you that so will many other small businesses that will be required to purchase health care at this cost. As my insurance agent said, there are about 10 pages that are good of the 2,600 pages that are not good in the document. Certainly the good pages are those that most of us hear about. I absolutely agree that there is a huge health care issue in the United States that needs to be addressed, but this is definitely not the answer.

For those of you with insurance benefits, you should thank your employer and consider yourself lucky. As you enter the voting booth, I urge you to think about anyone you know who is self-employed or a small-business owner and recognize if you think unemployment is bad now this will compound our current crisis. I encourage a vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan so that will allow those of us purchasing insurance to continue to be able to afford it and stay in business.
