Tentative deal reached in Evergreen Park strike

Students could be back in school next week in South suburban Evergreen Park after negotiators reached a tentative deal to end a teachers strike.

The strike has left about 1,800 students out of class since Oct. 2. District 124 includes four elementary schools and one junior high school. About 150 teachers and 60 support staff walked off the job after negotiators couldn’t agree on pay and benefits.

Early Friday, officials from the teachers union and the district announced they’ve reached a tentative agreement after hours of talks. They aren’t releasing any details.

Negotiators plan to meet to finalize the agreement.
