New attorney chimes in on Drew Peterson’s behalf

JOLIET — An outside attorney has filed a motion in Drew Peterson’s case, claiming the former police officer’s conviction of murdering his third wife should be overturned because of mistakes made by his attorneys during the trial.

Attorney John Paul Carroll of the Chicago suburb of Naperville filed the court document Tuesday seeking a new trial.

But Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky says Carroll has no authority to file the motion. Brodsky says he spoke to Peterson who told him he was “boggled” by how Carroll could have filed the motion.

Brodsky says Carroll was consulting with Peterson only on the matter of retaining his police pension.

Peterson’s scheduled to be sentenced next month after being convicted in September of murdering Kathleen Savio.
